Club History

Gainsborough Trinity were formed in 1873 as Trinity Recreationists, initially organised by the vicar of Holy Trinity Church for young parishioners. The club joined the Midland Counties League in 1889 and won the championship in 1890/91. After finishing runners-up the following season, Trinity were elected to the Football League Second Division in 1896.

The club remained in the Football League until 1912, when it returned to non-league competition. The Northolme continued to host football and became a central part of the club’s identity. Trinity went on to compete in the Midland League and later became a founder member of the Conference North in 2004.

Gainsborough reached the Conference North play-off final in 2012 under manager Steve Housham, one of the most notable moments of the modern era. The club has continued to compete at Step 3, retaining its historic ground and its place in Lincolnshire football.
