Club History
The club’s roots can be traced to teams associated with the Woolston shipbuilding works in the 1880s. The side re-formed after the First World War as Thornycrofts (Woolston), later returned after the Second World War and was re-established as Vosper Thornycroft FC in 1960. After years in Southampton leagues, the club climbed into the Hampshire League and then the Wessex League.
The name changed to Sholing FC in 2010 after the shipyard’s parent company ceased to exist, giving the club a stronger link to the local area. The Boatmen won the Wessex League Premier Division in 2018/19 and earned promotion to the Southern League. In 2022/23 they finished second and won the play-offs to reach the Southern League Premier Division South for the first time. A sixth-place finish in 2025/26 represented the club’s highest position in the non-league pyramid to date.
