Cornard United
Club history, honours and matchday guide for the Ards.
Club overview
Cornard United, nicknamed the Ards, are based in Great Cornard near Sudbury and play at Blackhouse Lane. The club’s current identity dates from its re-formation in 1964, following an earlier team believed to have been established in 1920. The club celebrated its golden jubilee in 2014.
History and honours
After restarting in local Sunday and district football, Cornard progressed through the Bury and District League and Colchester & East Essex League before joining the Essex & Suffolk Border League. The 1988/89 season was a landmark: the club won the league, league cup and Suffolk Senior Cup, including a 1–0 cup-final victory over local rivals Sudbury Wanderers. That success led to a place in the Eastern Counties League, where Cornard won Division One at the first attempt and reached the Premier Division.
The club’s story has included promotion, relegation and rebuilding, familiar themes across the non-league pyramid. For the 2026/27 season Cornard compete in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division. Current results and club announcements should be checked on the official website, as league position and squad information change throughout the season.
