Club History
Merthyr football has a long and distinguished history at Penydarren Park. The original Merthyr Town reached the Football League in the early twentieth century, while Merthyr Tydfil enjoyed major Southern League success and famously defeated Italian side Atalanta in the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987. The modern Merthyr Town FC was reformed in 2009 and returned to Penydarren Park in 2010 before rising back to Step 2.
