Club History

Local records point to football in Stanway in the early twentieth century, while the modern club re-formed on 10 July 1956. The Rovers began in the Colchester and East Essex League, winning its Premier Division in 1967/68 and again in 1973/74. After moving through the Essex & Suffolk Border League, the club secured a long-term home at New Farm Road in 1979; the clubhouse that followed opened in 1982.

Stanway entered the Eastern Counties League in 1992 and won its Division One title in 2005/06 to reach the Premier Division. They later moved between the Eastern Counties and Essex Senior League structures. The 2024/25 Essex Senior League title earned promotion to Step 4, and in 2025/26 Rovers finished fourth in the Isthmian North before beating Waltham Abbey in the semi-final and Redbridge on penalties in the play-off final. That second successive promotion took the club to Step 3 for the first time.
