Club History

Founded in 1891 as Broadheath FC, the club adopted the name Altrincham FC in 1903. After spending decades in the Cheshire County League, Altrincham became founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968 before joining the newly-formed Alliance Premier League in 1979.

The Robins immediately made history by winning the first two Alliance Premier League titles. However, before automatic promotion existed, they narrowly missed election to the Football League despite their success. In 1980 they famously fell just one vote short.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Altrincham developed a reputation as one of the greatest giant-killers in English football. They eliminated Football League opposition on numerous occasions and reached the Fourth Round of the FA Cup in 1985/86.

After periods of promotion and relegation, the club returned to the National League in 2020 and has since established itself as one of the division’s most competitive sides.
