Club History

Tamworth FC was founded in 1933 after the collapse of Tamworth Castle FC. Following a campaign by local businessman Michael Flowers and support from the local newspaper, a new football club was established to represent the town.

After spending their first season at the Jolly Sailor Ground, the club moved to The Lamb Ground in 1934, where they remain today. Success began to arrive during the 1960s when Tamworth won league titles, county cups and established themselves as one of the strongest clubs in regional football.

The club’s biggest breakthrough came under manager Gary Mills. Tamworth won the Southern League title in 2002/03 and secured promotion to the Conference National for the first time in their history. During the same season they reached the FA Trophy Final.

The Lambs enjoyed memorable FA Cup runs during the mid-2000s, defeating Football League clubs including AFC Bournemouth and Hartlepool United before facing Stoke City and Norwich City.

More recently, Tamworth achieved consecutive promotions in 2023 and 2024 to return to the National League. In January 2025 they captured national headlines by taking Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur to extra time in the FA Cup at The Lamb Ground.
