Atherton Collieries and Cammell Laird both clinched promotion from the North West Counties First Division this weekend.
After leading the way for most of the season it’s no surprise to see the two finally promoted.
Cammell Laird were first to seal promotion thanks to a 5-0 win against Oldham Boro on Saturday, following up with a celebratory 5-0 win at Widnes on Bank Holiday Monday.
It’s a fantastic achievement for the club, after recent troubles saw them drop down from the EvoStik Northern Premier League and into the North West Counties at the start of the season.
This now leaves them in a battle with Atherton Collieries to become champions.
Colls who sealed promotion at local rivals Atherton LR on Bank Holiday Monday are surely favourites for the title, currently sitting 1 point behind Lairds but with 5 games in hand.
Colls boss Michael Clegg won’t be letting his team take their foot off the gas despite already gaining promotion. As well as being favourites for the league, Colls are in two league cup finals, as they seek to end a tremendous season with silverware.
