Palmers Goal Gives Fields all Three Points

Westfields FC picked up all three points against the Leagues second from bottom side Dunkirk, thanks to a Marcus Palmer strike.

The opening three minutes saw Dunkirk start in a lively fashion, picking up the majority of the possession in the middle of the park. This phase of possession was short lived as Fields had the first chance of the game when Jamie Cuss found space 20 yards out from goal before firing his shot inches wide of the right hand post.

13 minutes into the game and Fields were in front, Zac Sirrell made an advancing run down the right hand side before playing a long ball into the path of Marcus Palmer who calmly brought the ball down before rolling the ball past the advancing Jake Want.

Moments later and Fields could have been two goals in front, a corner found it’s way to James Febery who scuffed is shot wide from the 6 yard box.

It was back to how It started as Dunkirk started to pick up the pace again. Just before Half Time Harvey Rivers saw the ball flash across his goal line before being cleared by the covering defender.

Half Time: Westfields 1-0 Dunkirk

Fields started the second half with a bang, Tom Boyle found space over on left hand side of the box before sending a thunderous shot rattling off the stanchion and onto the goal line, referee adjudged the ball didn’t cross the line.

Fields were in the thick of the action moments later as Joel Edwards saw his bullet header well saved by Jake Want to keep Dunkirk in the game.

A Fields onslaught saw Dunkirk fade out of the game. Jamie Cuss sent an inviting cross into the box which was met by Palmer who disappointingly sent his header over. Shortly after Cuss had a glorious chance to put the game to bed when he found himself 4 yards out from goal, but somehow put his shot wide.

Dunkirk’s best chance of the game came 10 minutes from the end when Carl Spencer produced an acrobatic save from Goalkeeper Harvey Rivers.

Spencer’s effort was their only real chance during the Second Half but wasn’t enough to get a share of the points.
