County took an early lead through Jack Ryan when he reacted quickest to a loose ball 6 yards out, Kristian Dennis’s 20 yard shot was spilled by Leamington keeper Ross Atkins and Ryan had the simplest of tasks to put The Hatters 1-0 up.

Dennis then doubled the advantage midway through the second half, a Danny Glover ball was lofted over the top of Leamington’s defence, and while there was appeals for offside, the linesman’s flag stayed down and Dennis raced through to slot past Atkins to give The Hatters a 2-0 lead.

Leamington almost pulled one back just before the break, only for Danny Hurst to pull off a wonder save from a Nathan Hicks header that was heading for the bottom corner.

However Leamington mounted a second half comeback and found themselves level following a Dan Newton brace. Firstly his effort from 20 yards out seemed to take a deflection which left Hurst stranded and the ball sailed into the top corner.

Then just over 10 minutes later, Newton burst into the box only to be thwarted by Hurst at his feet, the ball then ran loose and Newton at the second attempt grabbed his and Leamington’s second to level it up.

However the joy didn’t last long, just five minutes later, Greg Wilkinson scored a 25 yard screamer to put the Hatters back in front, and Sharp made sure of the 3 points on 90 minutes when he drilled home from just inside the area.
