Two goals either side of half-time saw Bootle see off Bacup & Rossendale Borough however, the first one in the 44th minute was a clear foul on goalkeeper Callum Jakovlevs.
Matty Bryan and Gareth Wager were promoted back to the starting eleven as well as Dominic Marie (on loan from Halifax) starting up front for his debut.
Bacup started brightly in their first game of the New Year and they came close after just two minutes with some good pressure by Martin Ormesher and Marie which allowed Matty Bryan to deliver well towards the back post with his weaker right foot to Dominic Marie who just couldn’t find the killer contact to divert goal wards.
The Borough were dominating the proceedings having the majority of possession and being first to every ball and they played some lovely stuff after ten minutes to go close once again. Marie was showing his blistering pace in behind and Michael Gervin played a lovely ball round the back of the defence and Marie who was just too quick for the defence latched onto the ball but his shot from a tight angle was easily saved.
One of the biggest worries for BARB at the moment is that they haven’t found the back of the net in the last five matches and when on top in matches like they were in this one as they dominated the first half you have to be clinical and score when in the ascendency.
With Bacup showing great tenacity and determination in the first half they kept the pressure on Bootle and came close again after 36 minutes with the ball popping out to Ormesher’s whose snap shot is well struck but equally well saved by Jack Mano.
With five minutes till the break the home side had their best spell of the match and made Jakovlevs produce a fantastic save to deny Shaun Harris.
Now for the moment of controversy, Bootle had a corner in the 44th minute, whipped it in and Bacup keeper Callum Jakovlevs was clearly impeded and not allowed to get to the ball and James McGrane smashed it in.

Half-Time: Bootle 1-0 Bacup & Rossendale Borough

Just three minutes into the second half and Bootle struck again as Tom Peterson walloped in off a rebound off the crossbar. Goals change games and these two certainly did.
After dominating the first half Bacup didn’t start the second half with the same tenacity and tightness to their shape and the third goal really did kill the game off. Gareth Wager pulled down the onrushing Bootle striker and at first it looked to have been outside of the area but the referee pointed to the spot and Peterson again comfortably dispatched.
Martin Ormesher who worked hard for the full 90 had Borough’s only noteworthy effort of the half as his powerful dipping free-kick was well tipped over by Mano.
The 4th and 5th came late on in the day and were poor goals to concede as the fourth was smashed in from close range off another corner by Jamie Hay and the fifth Peterson sealed his hat-trick as he sprung the offside trap and finished low into the corner.
