North West Non League Weekend Review

A busy weekend of football was slightly disrupted by the recent bad weather here in the North West as we lost a number of games to waterlogged and frozen pitches.

In the North West Counties League we only managed to get 6 results from a possible 19 fixtures, with Cheadle Town’s game almost making it seven before being abandoned mid way through the second half due to floodlight failure.

There was 3 results from both the Premier and First Division with Congleton, Glossop North End and West Didsbury & Chorlton picking up maximum points in the Premier Division following wins over Banoldswick, Ashton Athletic and Runcorn Town respectively. While Cammell Laird, Holker Old Boys and the impressive Northwich Flixton Villa all picked up wins in the First Division. Northwich Flixton Villa with the stand out result of the weekend, winning 10-1 against Widnes.

We fared slightly better in the EvoStik NPL with 15 of the 21 scheduled games in the Premier and North Division going ahead.
Marine, Trafford and Witton all lost down at the bottom of the table, while Nantwich fared slightly better picking up a 2-2 draw away at Stamford as they played their 1st game in their new home The REECO Arena.
At the top of the table, Skelmersdale got back to winning ways with a 4-0 hammering of Whitby Town, while Curzon Ashton went down 4-2 at home to Grantham.

In the First Division North, Northwich Victoria remained top after a 2-0 away win at Radcliffe Boro, Salford and Darlington stay hot on the heels of the Vics as they both won against Padiham and Bamber Bridge respectively.

Play-off hopefuls Droylsden came from 3-1 down to beat Ossett Albion 5-3, while there was also wins for Warrington at Mossley and Burscough at home to Brighouse, while Lancaster and New Mills both lost.
It was also FA Trophy 1st round weekend and we had a few sides in action there, Ramsbottom and Stockport County the obvious local highlight, with County returning from Rammy 3-0 victors, while FC United caused the shock of the day beating Conference North side Harrogate Town 4-0 at Bower Fold. There were also wins for AFC Fylde, Hyde, Chorley and Altrincham. Whereas Chester and Telford and Southport and Wrexham will battle it out this midweek in replays.
