Ramsbottom United In FA Trophy Progress

Ramsbottom United are keeping up their great start to the season by progressing in the FA Trophy too. A 3-0 win away at Banbury United, sees them in the First Round proper and the furthest the clubs ever has ever been before.

Despite 2 previous away trips in the competition at Whitby Town and Nantwich, The Rams were looking forward to another roadtrip as they travelled South to play Banbury who currently sit bottom of the EvoStik Southern Premier League.

Despite the early start to get to the ground in plenty of time to stretch the legs and settle in to new surroundings, Rammy turned in a fantastic performance and overcame the team that eliminated fellow NPL side Marine in the previous round.

We spoke to joint manager Anthony Johnson and he was delighted with his teams performance, calling it a professional performance and a deserved result. ‘we could have been 5-0 up at the break’ he said. But despite only the 1 goal lead at the break thanks to a John Robinson goal. Second half goals from Cedric Krou and Phil Dean gave the scoreline a more realistic look.

Ramsbottom go into Monday’s draw where the Conference Premier sides enter and Johnson admitted he’d love to draw one of the big teams, and although not Conference Premier he also said a draw against old friend and ex manager of his at Atherton Collieries Alan Lord’s Stockport County at Edgeley Park would be a dream.
