Wrexham 2-3 Altrincham
Altrincham came from behind to win this keenly fought encounter after the referee caused some controversy showing his red card 3 times. First up Altrincham’s Scott Leather saw red, before both of Wrexham’s strikers, Louis Moult and Andy Bishop followed suit.
Wrexham took the lead in this game on 14 minutes through Elliott Durrell, he latched on to a Wes York pass before slotting past Stuart Coburn. Altrincham then had 2 great chances to get back into the game with efforts by James Lawrie who saw his shot saved by debutant keeper Jon Flatt who’s in on loan from Wolves, and Steven Gillespie who wasted a golden chance by blazing his shot over the bar from 6 yards out.
Altrincham were then handed further misery when referee Ryan Johnson sent defender Scott Leather off for a challenge on Mark Carrington.
Then in first half injury time Louis Moult doubled Wrexhams advantage and looked to have put the game to bed. He was the first to react after strike partner Andy Bishops shot rebounded off the bar and gave the hosts a half time 2-0 lead.
There was time for more first half drama however, as goalscorer Moult saw red for a challenge on Lawrie, which saw both sides reduced to 10 men for the second half.
Alty manager Lee Sinnott introduced leading scorer Damian Reeves for the start of the second half and ten minutes in, Altrincham were handed a way back into the game when the referee sent off Wrexhams Andy Bishop for a second bookable offence.
This changed the game considerably and the further introduction of Ryan Crowther gave Alty all the momentum. Wrexham were stubborn and it took until the 75th minute for Reeves to pull one back. He met a Adam Griffin cross at the far post and volleyed home.
Five minutes later, Griffin again was the provider as another cross whipped in was bundled home by Reeves to level up at 2-2.
Altrincham completed the comeback on 83 minutes when James Lawrie scored the winner. Man of the match Griffin provided another great cross from the left which Gianluca Havern met at the far post and he headed back across goal where Lawrie was on hand to complete the comeback and give Altrincham the 3 points.
