NWCFL Review – Sat 15th Nov

Runcorn Linnets v St Helens Town

A win for Linnets as expected from my preview, but not as easy as I or many would have imagined. A 1-0 win sees Linnets pick up their 18th league win of the season despite playing much of the match with 10 men.

Colne v Glossop North End
I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who expected a tight game in what was undoubtedly game of the day. Glossop had other ideas however and ran out 6-0 winners showing their class and why they are title favourites along with Linnets.

1874 Northwich v Nelson

Nelson spoilt the party as they came away with a well earnt point at The Barton Stadium, on the day 1874 celebrated their 2nd birthday. Both promoted teams settling into life in the NWCFL Premier division well.

Ashton Athletic v Barnoldswick
Ashton Athletic continue their good run of form with a professional 2-0 win over struggling Barnoldswick.

AFC Liverpool v Abbey Hey
AFC Liverpool came from behind to get the 3 points against Abbey Hey and avenge the early season defeat to them.

Congleton Town v Winsford United
Winsford took the spoils here thanks to a Alex Byrne penalty just after the restart of the second half.

Squires Gate v Bootle
Squires Gate proved there’s life after Jack Sowerby with a 1-0 win over Bootle.

West Didsbury & Chorlton v AFC Blackpool
A great point for AFC Blackpool as they held West Dids to a 0-0 draw.

Bacup & Rossendale Borough v Runcorn Town

Stockport Sports v Maine Road
Maine Road grabbed their first win in 10 games over a struggling Stockport Sports side, who have now lost their last 7 games.

First Division
Atherton Collieries made it 13 wins from 13 with a 6-1 win over Rochdale Town, Hanley lose 4-2 to Northwich Flixton Villa and Remyca share the spoils with Daisy Hill after a 3-3 thriller.
A bumper crowd of 350 saw AFC Darwen beat Atherton LR 3-1, while bottom of the table Oldham Boro were 3-2 winners at Ashton Town. Widnes were 6-0 winners at Eccleshall and Chadderton win 6-1 at Wigan Robin Park.
