A special NonLeagueReview today as we have the exclusive reveal of Atherton Collieries new away kit for the 2014/15 season. So, before we get on with the review, lets do the big reveal:
Manufactured by Macron, and sponsored by local public house and favourite haunt of many Atherton Collieries regulars ‘The Jolly Nailor’
In a change from last years Navy blue (and white sash) Colls have gone for a more adventurous and bold red, for this season’s away kit. I was at the club a fortnight ago and the shirts had just arrived and I know that this had caused some concern from some of the senior Colls fans, but, in all honesty, I’m a big fan of this shirt. The white sash across the top just makes it for me. If it was just plain red, it wouldn’t do anything for me. But as it is, a simple, yet effective shirt.
Already revealed by the folk at Colls themselves is the new home kit. For me it’s a nice shirt, nice and simple, traditional Colls black & white striped, again a duo of Macron and The Jolly Nailor on the front. Then, you turn the shirt over and it all goes terribly wrong. It has a massive white square for where the squad number goes.
When I was shown this, I expressed my concern to Gibbo and said it spoilt the shirt. A striped shirt should be just that, front, back and sides. I was told last season they had trouble making out the numbers on the back of the striped shirts so they went for the blank white square. Unfortunately Macron don’t do shirts with a small square for where the number goes, it’s pretty much the whole back of the shirt. Going back to the front though, it’s a smart shirt and I especially love the V neck style. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of the back. But, at least you’ll be able to see the numbers next season.
Home – 6 The back of the shirt spoils what could have been a very nice home kit.
Away – 8.5 Red with the white dash makes it very bold and effective.
Overall – 7.25
