Pre-Season training with SCFC

Welcome to Stockport County
Welcome to Stockport County

Pre-Season training is well and truly underway for the hatters and I went along to catch up with Alan Lord and his squad. We had a brief chat about his plans for the new season and I took a look at how the new-boys had settled in, so without giving too much away, here’s a few words.

Lordy had his men working hard in this, the second session of the summer, and when I arrived Lordy was watching on intently as his assistant Phil Brown put the boys through their paces. It wasn’t for the faint hearted and I was just watching.

As the boys were put through a gruelling 45 minute workout I spoke to the gaffer and he told me fitness is key for the team this summer. He wants the team to be more physical next term in a league where you need to be tougher, both physically and mentally.

Moving on to transfer business, we spoke about the players brought in so far. Joining Daniel Gregson, Nathan Woolfe, Glenn Belezika and Russell Benjamin who all joined early on in the summer are Scott Spencer and keeper Danny Hurst who join the Hatters this week. All were present at training and looked like they’d settled in well. Regarding any new faces, Alan warned fans to be patient and there will be new additions as he attempts to build a ‘squad’ capable of getting out of this division.

With the first pre-season friendly just over a week away at former manager Jim Gannon’s Northwich Victoria, expect plenty more sessions like last night as they prepare for what I’m sure will be a tough test against a Northwich Vic’s side that ended last season very strongly.

July 12th
