Salford City FC and the class of 92

So the worst kept secret in non league football finally broke today (Thurs 27th March), as the announcement of the class of 92 buying Salford City FC was officially announced. In a series of tweets from the official Salford City account at around 7pm they announced that a deal had been done with Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt for the acquisition of the club subject to FA and League approval in the summer of 2014.

Straight away Gary Neville took to twitter to address recent concerns that they planned to move away from their current Moor Lane home and rename the club Salford 92.

While Salford’s own twitter account was then inundated with tweets as they received requests of shirts, scarves and other kinds of merchandise to new fans and well wishers. With over 10,000 new followers you can probably imagine that this will be a start of things to come as they prepare for a new adventure next season and start the ambitious plans of reaching the Championship in 15 years. We wish them well, and look forward to watching their progress.
